How do I move ETH from Linea to Ethereum?

I withdrew some ETH from an exchange and selected Linea because the withdrawal fee was much lower. The coins arrived in MetaMask, but the service I need to pay only accepts ETH on Ethereum mainnet. When I switch networks in the wallet, the balance disappears even though the address stays the same. I didn't realize ETH on Linea couldn't be sent directly through Ethereum. How do I move it to the network the service accepts?

Answers

  • You could send the ETH to an exchange that accepts deposits through Linea, then withdraw it again using Ethereum mainnet. Check the supported deposit network carefully before transferring anything, since some exchanges allow Linea withdrawals but don't accept deposits from it. Sending a small amount first would also confirm that you've selected the right network.

  • Using an exchange would send the money through an unnecessary detour when both balances belong to the same wallet. What you need is a service that removes the ETH from Linea and delivers it to your Ethereum balance as part of one cross-chain operation. You can use this Linea bridge here: https://defiway.com/bridges/bridge-eth-linea-ethereum . Pick the network where the coins are currently stored, indicate that you want to receive them on Ethereum, and type in the amount. You'll see the expected result before MetaMask asks you to authorize the operation.
