Thanks for your reply, the article says the problem is fixed, but I am still getting it. I have deleted the app now and will try again, as other aspects didn't work either.

Ok. Apparently, any time the Twitter service runs into trouble, their phone number procedure fails. Maybe it's recurring thing.
Or something totally different ;-)
