"Extract to /root/ folder?" - do you mean "ServerRoot" on the development machine/ remote server?
Using Slackware 14 as development machine; should the files be dropped in the 'htdocs' folder or 'www' or should it be the root folder of the webserver?
(Is it OK to have the contents of the opencart-2.x folders put in the public folders,.. Is Document root same as "/root/ folder"? )

The /root/ folder means the root directory of the Opencart installation.
In general, the Opencart files must be available to the web server's account.
