Alternative to Claude Code for programming
So a buddy told me to try Claude Code for my dev work. I grabbed their top tier subscription to really put it through its paces and see if it lives up to the hype. Code-wise, it's actually not bad, gets the job done. Problem is, my laptop turns into a brick whenever I run it. Fans going crazy, everything's lagging, can barely switch between windows without waiting. I mean, I already dropped cash on the month so I'll finish it out, but I need something that won't cook my machine alive. Any recommendations?

Yeah, resource-heavy tools are frustrating when you're trying to get work done. You open the app and suddenly your computer acts like it's from 2015. Browser tabs start freezing, switching between windows takes forever. The problem is usually how these tools are built, some of them just eat up RAM and CPU for no good reason. I've had decent luck with GitHub Copilot, it integrates smoothly and doesn't turn my laptop into a space heater. If you want something that runs directly in your editor, Cursor's been getting solid feedback for staying lightweight while handling code assistance.
Paying for a subscription and then dealing with constant lag is the worst. You're supposed to be more productive, not sitting there waiting for your system to catch up every five seconds. The product's still rough around the edges, but worth trying if you want to test it. It's basically a clone of Claude Code but without Node.js, which is what causes all that system slowdown.
