LinkedIn avatar images not working

Hello there,

I have noticed that all accounts registered and connected on my site with their LinkedIn social account have no correct avatar images loaded with their profile.

When I check the url of the image, I get something like:
https://media.licdn.com/dms/image/C4D00AQHXNDbDQk9QTg/profile-originalphoto-shrink_450_600/0?e=1541775600&v=beta&t=yl7rkV7H79GV1YAhbK0JtyH8EAxn9Odhz8YznWKnOrw

Which is going nowhere.

Do you have an idea why and how to load a correct LinkedIn avatar?

Thanks for any tips!
Yves.

    Hi Yves,

yes, this is the correct url for a LinkedIN avatar. We receive that url directly from their API so I'm not sure why it does not work. Do you have that error for all users?

    Regards,

  • Hi Claude,

Thank you for your prompt response, but I actually didn't see it (I expected to be notified).

The answer is yes. All LinkedIn users have broken images. You can go to my site Members directory and all the broken images you see are from LinkedIn users.

    Regards,
    Yves.

  • Hello,

Do you have any tips for me to try to fix this issue? Some of my users are really angry of that and I don't see any turnaround... :(

    Thanks in advance,
    Yves.

    Hi Yves,

the broken avatars are not generated by Social Login. If you have a look at the sourcecode of the members directory you can see that broken avatars are like this:

    <img src="" class="avatar user-446-avatar avatar-150 photo" alt="Illustration du profil de stefania HOASYS" width="150" height="150">

Social Login avatars always have the class avatar-social-login

Could you please check if you have enabled the avatars in the Social Login settings in your WordPress admin area?

    Regards,

  • Hi Claude,

Yes, Avatars are enabled in the Social Login settings (large size).

I'm not sure why the avatar-social-login class is not there (probably because of BuddyPress) but there are no such issue with other networks. None of the avatars have this class but it is nevertheless working for users logged in with Google, FB or Twitter.

What is surprising is that it used to work. I can't say when it has broken because I have not so many users logged in with LinkedIn. Maybe LinkedIn changed something in their pictures management?

Do you have any other idea for me to investigate?

    Thanks!
    Yves.
